A hiker on a mountain ridge above the clouds

Go further than the car park.

Guided trips for people who want the ridge, not the viewing platform. Eight guests, one guide, huts and tents we know by name, and a pace set by the slowest person in the group on purpose.

Guests who came back for another

Small groups, slow mornings, big days.

We run fourteen trips in four regions and we have run most of them for a decade. The huts know us. The rafts are ours. The guides are certified, permanent, and paid whether the trip fills or not, which is why they will tell you honestly when the weather says turn around. Groups are eight because that is how many people one guide can actually look after on a ridge, and because eight people can still fit around one table at the hut.

  • Every guide holds an IFMGA, IRF or equivalent certification and a current wilderness first-aid ticket.
  • Prices include the huts, the meals on the hill, the transfers and the kit we lend. They exclude flights and nothing else.
  • If we cancel, you get everything back. If the weather cancels a day, we have a plan B we have already walked.

A day on the trail

Tents on a hill at sunrise

Six: the kettle

The guide is up first. Weather checked, route confirmed or changed, porridge on. Nobody is hurried.

A group on a steep scree ridge, packs on

Eight: walking

Slowest person sets the pace, on purpose. Breaks every hour, longer ones at the views.

Four walkers laughing at a stop below Dolomites spires

One: lunch somewhere good

Cheese, bread, whatever the hut packed, wherever the guide has been saving for you.

Hay huts on the Alpe di Siusi below the Sassolungo

Four: the hut

In by four, boots off, a beer on the terrace and dinner at seven with the eight of you around one table.

“I am not fit and I was terrified of holding everyone up. Ana set the pace to me from the first hour and nobody minded, because that is the rule. I did the whole High Route. I still cannot quite believe it.”

“Day two the weather turned and Tomás turned us around at the col with a plan B he had clearly walked before. We saw a different valley, ate at a different hut, and nobody got hurt. That is what you are paying for.”

“Three rivers, five days, one raft that we started to think of as ours. Kai is the calmest person I have ever seen in a grade IV rapid.”

Mark T.Dolomites Ski Touring
“Four of us and Lena, six days on skins. She rewrote the plan every morning off the avalanche bulletin and not once did the new plan feel like the lesser one.”

“The circuit is hard. They do not pretend otherwise, and they do not let the group leave anyone behind. Twelve days later I had eight new friends and no toenails.”
Safety

How we keep eight people safe

  • Certified, permanent guides

    Checked every season

IFMGA, IRF or national equivalent, plus a current wilderness first-aid ticket. Guides are employed, not booked per trip, and paid whether it runs or not.

  • A plan B for every day

    Every trip

Every day of every trip has an alternative the guide has already walked. When the weather turns, the group turns with it.

  • Satellite communicator on every guide

    Every day

Two-way, with the office and mountain rescue on the other end. Checked in at the hut every night.

  • Kit inspected before departure

    Before every trip

Rafts, ropes, via ferrata sets and dry suits are logged and inspected to manufacturer schedules and retired early.

  • Swiftwater rescue on every river

    Every river day

Every raft guide is a swiftwater rescue technician, and a safety kayaker runs each grade IV rapid ahead of the rafts.

  • Ratios that do not bend

    Always

Eight guests per guide on foot, six per raft on the water, four per guide on skis. A waiting list does not change them.

Full risk assessments for each trip are sent with your booking confirmation and are available on request before it.

06Honest question

Is this your kind of trip?

You will love it if

  • You want the ridge, not the viewing platform
  • You can walk six hours with a pack and enjoy at least four of them
  • You like eating with strangers who will not be strangers by Tuesday
  • You are fine with weather being the boss

Probably not if

  • You want a private guide and your own schedule
  • You need a hotel bed every night
  • A day being turned around by weather would ruin the trip for you

Not sure about the fitness? Call us. We have talked hundreds of people onto the right trip and a few off the wrong one.
